Privacy Policy for Are You Well?
This Privacy Policy describes how Are You Well? collects, uses, stores, and discloses information in connection with the mobile application and related services.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information processed through the Are You Well? mobile application, including user account access, scheduled check-in features, alerts, notifications, in-app contact management, and related communication features.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect and process the following categories of information:
- Account information, including your email address
- User preferences, including timezone, check-in interval, grace period, and presence status
- Contact information that you choose to add, including contact type, contact value, label, verification status, and alert settings
- Check-in records, including timestamps and related status information
- Alert records and delivery status associated with missed check-ins
- Push notification device tokens used to deliver app notifications
- Location information, only if you choose to enable location sharing during check-in

3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To authenticate users and deliver one-time passcodes for sign-in
- To operate scheduled check-in, reminder, and overdue-alert functionality
- To notify contacts selected by you when a required check-in is missed
- To allow you to manage contacts, settings, preferences, and account state
- To deliver push notifications and in-app notifications related to safety, chat, or session events
- To maintain service integrity, security, fraud prevention, and troubleshooting
- To improve application performance, reliability, and user support
4. Legal Basis and User Choice
Certain processing is necessary to provide the core functionality of the application, including sign-in, check-in scheduling, and contact alert delivery. Other processing, such as location sharing and some notifications, is based on permissions and settings controlled by the user. You may withdraw optional permissions through your device or in-app settings, subject to any functional limitations that may result.
5. Location Information
The application may request access to location information if you enable location sharing. When enabled, location may be collected at the time of check-in and used to provide your most recent known location in connection with an alert workflow for verified contacts.
Location sharing is optional and may be turned off by the user at any time. The application is not intended to provide continuous or background tracking for general surveillance purposes.
6. Contacts and Alert Recipients
You are responsible for the contact information you provide through the application. Alert notifications are sent only to contacts that you add and enable for alert use. Certain contact methods may require verification before alerts are sent.
7. Messaging Features
The application may provide in-app communication features between eligible users. Message content is transmitted through the service to facilitate delivery. Based on the current system design, message content is intended to be encrypted in transit between clients and is not designed to be stored as long-term message history in the main application database.
8. Notifications
The application may send local notifications, push notifications, or in-app notifications related to reminders, missed check-ins, contact alerts, chat attempts, and account session events. Notification delivery may depend on device permissions, operating system settings, and third-party notification infrastructure.
9. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell personal information. Information may be disclosed to the following categories of recipients only as reasonably necessary:
- Contacts designated by you for alert-related communication
- Service providers or infrastructure providers that support app operation, authentication, email delivery, or notification delivery
- Authorities or other parties where disclosure is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or protection of rights and safety
10. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce applicable terms. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the operational purpose for which it was collected.
11. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
12. International Processing
Depending on the hosting, notification, or communication providers in use, information may be processed in jurisdictions other than the country in which the user is located. By using the service, you acknowledge that such processing may occur, subject to applicable law.
13. Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, users may have the right to:
- Access or review certain personal information associated with their account
- Update account settings, contacts, and optional permissions
- Request deletion or correction of certain information, where applicable
- Sign out of all active sessions and manage account access
14. Children's Privacy
The application is not directed to children under the age at which parental consent is required under applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable law, please contact us so that appropriate steps may be taken.
